Antibes is banking on gamified trails to help people rediscover their heritage

Date:

Antibes aims to transform heritage visits into a fun experience. The destination is launching two gamified trails, accessible free of charge via the Baludik app, with a simple promise: to offer a new way to discover the city while driving traffic to local businesses. Beyond the novelty factor, the initiative illustrates a fundamental trend in local tourism: making heritage more vibrant, more interactive, and more profitable for the local ecosystem.

The initiative is part of the European INTERREG Italy-France Marittimo VIA PATRIMONIA ACT program, led by the Corsican Regional Authority. In Antibes Juan-les-Pins, its implementation brings together the Nice Côte d'Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the City, the Tourist Office, and local business associations. The stated objective is clear: to better connect heritage, visitor experience, and the local economy, according to the specialized press.

Antibes transforms the classic visit into a treasure hunt

In practice, visitors download the Baludik app and then follow a scenario punctuated with riddles, clues, narrative content, and heritage discoveries. Two characters, Anthea and Cora, guide participants through this urban exploration designed for both locals and tourists.

The first route, dedicated to the myths and legends surrounding Port Vauban, takes participants through Old Antibes for approximately 90 minutes. Ramparts, Fort Carré, the old port, and historic alleyways become the stages of a walking treasure hunt focused on founding stories and local maritime traditions.

The second route, around Port Gallice in Juan-les-Pins, immerses visitors in the world of the Roaring Twenties, jazz, and Art Deco. This shorter experience draws on the seaside imagery of the Riviera and the historical identity of Juan-les-Pins.

Antibes is reinventing the discovery of its heritage through two gamified tourist routes that combine culture, digital technology and local commerce.

A project also designed for businesses in Antibes

The benefits of this initiative extend beyond heritage interpretation. At the end of the tour, participants can collect a reward from the Tourist Office. This reward includes promotional offers valid at around fifty partner businesses.

This point changes the nature of the initiative. Antibes is not simply offering more tourist attractions. The destination also seeks to extend the time spent there, to direct visitors towards the shops in the city center, and to create a direct link between the visitor experience and local consumption.

For tourism professionals, this is an interesting sign. Heritage is no longer just used to tell the story of a region. It is also becoming a lever for travel, promotion, and economic stimulation.

Why Antibes can inspire other destinations

This launch is a continuation of the GrItAccess project, whose ambition VIA PATRIMONIA ACT is adopting on a Mediterranean scale: to structure accessible, sustainable cultural routes that are better integrated into local realities. The European program emphasizes inclusive, responsible tourism that is open to diverse audiences.

In this respect, the example of Antibes deserves to be followed. The model is based on ingredients that many territories already possess: an identifiable heritage, a commercial city center, mobilized public partners and a digital layer light enough to remain simple to deploy.

The project's greatest strength lies in its execution. Antibes isn't just selling an app. The destination tells a story, showcases its neighborhoods, and transforms a stroll into an experience. In a market where visitors expect more than a simple collection of points of interest, this type of format can make all the difference.

A launch planned for early July in Antibes

The official launch of the initiative is scheduled for July 3, 2026, at Port Vauban. For Antibes Juan-les-Pins, the stakes go far beyond summer activities. The destination is testing a more contemporary way to showcase its heritage without resorting to heavy infrastructure investments.

In other words, Antibes is no longer content with simply showcasing its scenery. The city is seeking to bring it to life. And that is precisely what could attract a new generation of visitors.
