Aranui Cruises is preparing for 2027: why the arrival of the Aranoa could expand the offering in French Polynesia

Date:

French Polynesia remains one of the world's most desirable destinations. Yet, many travelers still focus on a few iconic islands like Tahiti, Moorea, or Bora Bora. In 2027, Aranui Cruises could help change this perception with an enhanced offering centered around two complementary ships: the Aranui 5 and the new Aranoa.

For travel agencies and tour operators, this development opens up new business opportunities. Above all, it allows access to archipelagos much less known to the general public, while maintaining the cultural approach that has made the Polynesian company's reputation.

Aranui Cruises enters a new phase of development

For over forty years, Aranui Cruises has held a special place in Polynesian tourism. Its model is based on an original combination of freight transport and passenger services, particularly to the Marquesas Islands.

This approach has allowed the company to develop a product different from traditional cruises, more focused on encounters, discovering local communities and understanding the daily life of remote archipelagos.

According to the specialized press, 2027 will mark a significant milestone with the simultaneous operation of two ships. The Aranui 5 will continue its historic routes to the Marquesas Islands, while the Aranoa will open access to other regions of French Polynesia.

Aranoa will expand the company's playing field

The main change concerns the arrival of the Aranoa, a ship designed to accommodate approximately 200 passengers.

The company plans to use it on several routes covering, in particular, the Austral Islands, the Tuamotu Islands, the Gambier Islands, Pitcairn Islands, and some of the Society Islands.

For tourism professionals, the appeal is clear. These archipelagos remain relatively under-represented in European travel packages due to their remoteness and the logistical complexities involved in exploring them.

With an integrated cruise solution, it becomes easier to offer these regions to customers already attracted to Polynesia or to travelers looking for more secluded destinations.

The Marquesas Islands remain at the heart of the strategy

The arrival of the Aranoa does not change the central role of the Aranui 5.

The ship will continue to operate the historic routes to the Marquesas Islands with twenty departures scheduled for 2027.

This route remains one of the most iconic products of Polynesian tourism. It allows you to discover a unique cultural heritage through villages, artisanal traditions, volcanic landscapes and encounters with the locals.

According to the company, one departure will also be dedicated to the Festival des Marquises, the Matavaa, a cultural event organized every four years.

Why this development is of interest to travel agencies

The novelty lies not only in the arrival of a second ship.

It mainly concerns Aranui Cruises' ability to expand its product range without straying from its historical positioning.

For several years now, travelers have been seeking more immersive experiences, local encounters, and cultural discoveries. This trend is particularly visible in far-flung destinations, where authenticity often becomes as important a selection criterion as comfort.

The Aranoa allows the company to meet this demand while offering itineraries rarely accessible as part of a first trip to French Polynesia.

An opportunity for travelers who wish to return to Polynesia

One of the main advantages of this new offer concerns travellers who have already discovered the great classics of the destination.

For this clientele, the Austral Islands, the Gambier Islands or even Pitcairn represent an opportunity to extend their discovery of Polynesia through much less frequented territories.

The company also plans to extend its Tiki Club loyalty program to both ships to encourage passengers to discover new itineraries after an initial experience on board.

What tourism professionals need to know

With the arrival of the Aranoa, Aranui Cruises is not simply increasing its capacity. The company is enriching its offering and strengthening its presence in several archipelagos of French Polynesia.

This development comes at a time when travellers are placing increasing importance on cultural experiences, off-the-beaten-path itineraries and encounters with local people.

According to the specialized press, the simultaneous operation of the Aranui 5 and the Aranoa could thus allow more travelers to access regions of Polynesia that are still little known to the general public.

For travel agencies, this is an additional opportunity to diversify their programming for a destination that continues to hold a special place in the imagination of travelers.
