Bouygues Telecom is partnering with Havas Voyages to enter travel agencies and identify a key travel pain point

Date:

Bouygues Telecom is making progress in a very practical area of travel: connectivity abroad. In partnership with Havas Voyages, the operator is now rolling out its InternationalSIM offer in 186 participating Havas Voyages and Auchan Voyages agencies. The announcement may seem technical, but it addresses a crucial aspect of the customer journey: traveling with connectivity, avoiding roaming charges and the need to find a local solution once you arrive.

The partnership is based on a simple principle. Travelers keep their usual SIM card in their phone and add a prepaid eSIM for travel. Bouygues Telecom specifies that this solution, launching in 2025, provides access to mobile internet in over 200 destinations and activates automatically upon arrival, depending on the chosen plan. For travel agencies, this adds an easy-to-explain service component to the customer's trip planning.

Bouygues Telecom is transforming connectivity into a travel service

The real issue isn't just the eSIM. What Bouygues Telecom is implementing with Havas Voyages is a reassurance sales approach at the counter. In a travel agency, an advisor uses a dedicated interface to guide the customer based on their destination, the length of their stay, and their data usage. The product then becomes a pre-departure service, just like insurance or an assistance option.

This positioning aligns with market trends. The GSMA estimates that global eSIM-compatible smartphone penetration reached 5% by the end of 2025 and is expected to reach 10% by the end of 2026. Meanwhile, GSMA Intelligence reported in March 2026 that 12% of consumers who had traveled internationally in the previous twelve months had used an eSIM during their trip. In other words, Bouygues Telecom is not entering a niche market. The operator is part of an adoption trend that is beginning to gain traction, according to the specialized press.

Bouygues Telecom is focusing on eSIM in branches to simplify connectivity for travelers before departure.

Why this movement is of direct interest to tourism professionals

For the travel industry, the benefit is clear. Connectivity remains one of those minor annoyances that significantly impacts the customer experience. Fear of exceeding data allowances, searching for Wi-Fi, last-minute purchases of local SIM cards, difficulty staying connected: all of this can be addressed even before departure. By installing InternationalSIM at Havas Voyages, Bouygues Telecom is tapping into a real need, one that travelers immediately understand.

The partnership also says something about the physical travel agency in 2026. It no longer just sells transportation or accommodation. It can also sell useful travel-related services, provided they are simple, quick to activate, and perceived as helpful. On this point, Bouygues Telecom's offer ticks several boxes: keeping your existing number, choosing a suitable prepaid plan, avoiding unexpected charges, and remaining operational upon arrival.

Another step forward for Bouygues Telecom in the travel ecosystem

Bouygues Telecom launched InternationalSIM in 2025 as a digital solution accessible to both French and international travelers. The partnership with Havas Voyages and Auchan Voyages marks a new stage. It's no longer simply about offering an eSIM online; it's about integrating it into a key sales moment: the trip planning phase, when the customer is already in the decision-making process.

For distribution networks, this type of partnership opens up a broader perspective. Value is no longer solely based on the core tourism product. It is also built on complementary services that simplify the stay. Insurance, mobility, connectivity, on-site services: Bouygues Telecom demonstrates here that a useful innovation doesn't need to be spectacular to find its place in the customer journey.

Why Bouygues Telecom can score points in 2026

The timing is significant. eSIMs are gaining traction, travelers are more sensitive to roaming charges, and agencies are seeking new sources of value without excessively burdening their advisors. By entering 186 points of sale with Havas Voyages, Bouygues Telecom is positioning itself with a clear, tangible, and immediately marketable use case.

In tourism, many innovations remain at the discourse stage. This one has the advantage of being immediately actionable. That is precisely why it deserves the sector's attention.
