The 2026 World Cup hasn't even started yet, but its effects are already being felt in the business travel market. According to data published by Navan, companies are accelerating their bookings to North American host cities, causing a marked increase in business travel and growing pressure on hotel capacity.
While some indicators point to a slowdown in leisure tourism across several markets, corporate travel is following the opposite trajectory. For many companies, the World Cup already represents a commercial, networking, and media opportunity that is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore.
Summary
Business travel is fully benefiting from the World Cup effect
According to data provided by Navan, the volume of business bookings for flights and hotels to host cities is increasing by 46% in the United States compared to the same period in 2025.
In Canada, the increase reached 295%, driven primarily by Toronto. In the Canadian metropolis, combined spending on air travel and accommodation jumped 486% year-over-year.
These bookings are not related to fans but to companies that are already preparing their public relations operations, customer events, business meetings and visibility activities around the tournament.
According to the trade press, major international competitions regularly generate significant activity in the business travel sector. However, the figures observed this year demonstrate a particularly high level of anticipation.

Hotel prices are already starting to skyrocket
One of the most visible consequences concerns accommodation.
Navan observes an average 30% increase in hotel rates in the American cities hosting the competition. The average cost of a stay now reaches $1,592.
The San Francisco Bay Area currently accounts for the highest volume of business bookings on the platform. The average cost of a stay there reaches $1,641.
The New York and New Jersey area, which will host the final, has an average price of $1,836 per reservation.
This price inflation is pushing companies to book much earlier in order to secure their budgets and availability.
Toronto is establishing itself as the most sought-after city
Of all the host cities, Toronto appears to be the main beneficiary of this dynamic.
Companies book their airline tickets on average 119 days before departure, compared to 69 days a year earlier.
This anticipation comes even though air prices observed over the period are 26% lower than those recorded the previous year.
For tourism professionals, this development illustrates the growing importance of Toronto in the travel strategies of international companies as they approach competition.
Tech dominates, but consulting is accelerating faster
The data published by Navan also shows which sectors are fueling this growth.
Technology companies alone account for 51% of flight and accommodation spending recorded on the platform in host cities.
However, the consulting and business services sector shows the fastest growth with a 130% increase in spending compared to 2025.
This trend confirms that major sporting events have become fully-fledged economic platforms where customers, partners, investors and decision-makers meet.
Los Angeles confirms the rise of bleisure
Another interesting lesson: the rise of bleisure, the practice of extending a business trip with a leisure component.
In Los Angeles, stays including a Saturday night increased from 44% to 52% of bookings observed by Navan. At the same time, the overall volume of bookings to the city increased by 163%.
This evolution reflects a gradual transformation of business travel. Employees are increasingly taking advantage of major international events to combine professional obligations with personal experiences.
What these figures really reveal
Beyond football, the data published by Navan shows that the 2026 World Cup is already acting as a powerful economic driver for the entire business travel ecosystem.
Hoteliers, airlines, specialist agencies, event organizers and travel managers all face the same reality: professional demand accelerates well before the start of the competition.
According to the specialist press, this trend should continue to support bookings and prices in several host cities until the start of the tournament.
For tourism professionals, the message is clear. The 2026 World Cup will not just be a global sporting event. It has already become a major accelerator of professional mobility in North America.
