Civitatis appoints Andrés Spitzer as CEO to usher in a new growth cycle

Date:

Civitatis is initiating a strategic transition at its helm. According to the official statement released by the company, Alberto Gutiérrez, founder of the tours and excursions platform, is handing over the CEO position to Andrés Spitzer. This change will take effect on January 1, 2026 , and marks a new stage in the development of the Spanish travel tech company.

An organized succession in continuity

After eighteen years at the helm, Alberto Gutiérrez is stepping down from his executive role but will remain fully involved in the group's governance by retaining a seat on the Board of Directors. He will thus continue to support Civitatis' strategic vision alongside Vitruvian Partners, the majority shareholder since 2022.

This transition is part of a strategy of managerial continuity. In the press release, Alberto Gutiérrez emphasizes that Civitatis is "stronger than ever" and believes that Andrés Spitzer has "the vision, energy and skills necessary" to lead the company's next phase of growth.

Andrés Spitzer, a product and technology profile

As the current Chief Product & Technology Officer, Andrés Spitzer already has an intimate knowledge of the inner workings of Civitatis. Before joining the company, he worked in international groups such as Amazon, Europcar and Ubeeqo, with a career focused on marketplaces, technology and digital transformation.

At Civitatis, he led the product and technology strategy, with the goal of improving the user experience and operational efficiency of the platform. In the press release, he describes Civitatis as "a unique, profitable company valued by both its customers and partners," and states his intention to leverage technology to create greater long-term value.

A rare trajectory in travel tech

Founded in 2008, Civitatis grew organically for over a decade before Vitruvian Partners invested in 2022. The company now boasts over 1.2 million travelers per month and strong growth momentum, particularly in Latin America, while maintaining a profitable business model. According to the industry press, this balance between growth and profitability remains relatively uncommon in the world of travel platforms.

For Sophie Bower-Straziota, partner at Vitruvian Partners, this transition illustrates Civitatis' maturity. The investor expressed full confidence in the new management's ability to pursue sustainable growth based on technology and operational excellence.

A clearly defined international ambition

AlongsideEnrique Espinel, Chief Operating Officer, Andrés Spitzer will be tasked with strengthening Civitatis' international expansion, particularly in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking markets. The stated objective is to consolidate existing positions while continuing to expand the brand's global footprint.

In the press release, Mariano Dima, president of Civitatis, believes that Andrés Spitzer is "the ideal leader to lead a new phase of large-scale innovation" and exploit the potential of several hundred million travelers in these language areas.

Key takeaways

The transfer of Civitatis' CEO position to Andrés Spitzer, effective January 1, 2026, reflects a commitment to strategic continuity. Alberto Gutiérrez will remain involved on the Board of Directors. The company will pursue a trajectory based on profitability, technology, and international expansion, with the support of Vitruvian Partners.
