Guadeloupe–Panama: the new Air France route that opens direct access to the Americas

Date:

Air France will launch a direct Guadeloupe–Panama route between Pointe-à-Pitre and Panama City on December 11, 2026. Two weekly flights are scheduled until March 5, 2027, with connections to several destinations in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean via Copa Airlines.

The launch of this seasonal route remains subject to obtaining the necessary government approvals. Bookings have been open since July 22, 2026, through Air France sales channels and travel agencies.

Two Guadeloupe–Panama flights per week

Flights will depart from Pointe-à-Pitre on Mondays and Fridays at 4:30 p.m., arriving in Panama City at 6:55 p.m. local time.

On the return journey, departures from Panama City are scheduled for Tuesdays and Saturdays at 9 a.m., with arrival in Guadeloupe at 1:05 p.m.

The route will be operated with an Airbus A320 configured with 170 seats divided between Business and Economy cabins. Air France also announces high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity on board.

The schedules have been designed to allow connections in Pointe-à-Pitre from Fort-de-France and Cayenne. The new service thus integrates into Air France's Caribbean Regional Network, which already connects Guadeloupe to Martinique, French Guiana, Miami, Belém, and Fortaleza.

The main interest lies beyond Panama

The Guadeloupe–Panama route is not only aimed at passengers whose final destination is Panama City. Its appeal also lies in the connections offered at Tocumen International Airport, Copa Airlines' main hub.

According to information provided during the announcement, passengers will be able to continue their journey on Copa Airlines flights, with baggage being transported to the final destination for eligible routes.

Around fifteen cities were cited among the accessible correspondences: Asunción, Georgetown, Guatemala City, Guayaquil, Havana, Lima, Managua, Montevideo, Port of Spain, Punta Cana, Quito, San José in Costa Rica, San Salvador, Santo Domingo and Tegucigalpa.

Copa Airlines presents Tocumen as its "Hub of the Americas." The airline had already indicated it would serve 85 destinations in 32 countries by 2024. However, the exact number of cities offered to travelers departing from Pointe-à-Pitre will depend on commercial agreements, schedules, and availability at the time of booking.

A new route to integrate into Latin American sales

For tourism professionals, this opening creates a new possibility of building itineraries from Guadeloupe, but also from Martinique and French Guiana thanks to the connections organized in Pointe-à-Pitre.

Travel agencies will be able to search for packages combining a stay in Panama with a second destination served by Copa Airlines. The route can also be used for travel to several capital cities and major cities in Latin America that previously required separate journeys.

However, the actual benefits will need to be verified on a case-by-case basis. Connection times, fare conditions, baggage rules, and passenger protection in case of irregularities may vary depending on the ticket's composition.

It is therefore premature to claim that this route will permanently transform Pointe-à-Pitre into a major hub. The service is seasonal, limited to two weekly flights, and announced for a period of less than three months.

Air France is strengthening its regional network from Guadeloupe

According to the trade press, Air France operates its regional network with two Airbus A320s based in Guadeloupe. The opening of the Panama City route comes after the development of connections to Belém and Fortaleza, Brazil.

The company also markets long-haul flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Panama City. However, the new Guadeloupe–Panama route follows a different logic: directly connecting the French West Indies and French Guiana to the continental network accessible from Tocumen.

Alain Bièvre, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbes Airport Company, stated that this opening "marks a strategic step for Guadeloupe Maryse Condé Airport" and that it "strengthens our role as a regional hub and opens new perspectives for connection to Central America, Latin America and the West Coast of the United States.".

Guadeloupe–Panama: an opening to watch after the launch

The characteristics of the route are now established: two direct flights per week, an Airbus A320 with 170 seats, operation from December 11, 2026 to March 5, 2027 and connections planned via Copa Airlines.

Its commercial impact will then depend on the level of demand, the fares offered, the quality of connections and the possible renewal of the program after winter 2026-2027. Air France has not announced, at this stage, an extension beyond March 5, 2027.
