Iran War: THAI and Air Mauritius increase flights to Paris

Date:

When a geopolitical crisis disrupts global air transport, some airlines reduce their capacity. Others, on the contrary, try to seize the opportunities created by the pressure on seat supply. This is what we are currently seeing with the consequences of the Iran-Iraq War on airspace in the Middle East.

According to the specialized press, several disruptions are affecting air routes connecting Asia, Europe, and the Middle East. Route diversions, schedule adjustments, and pressure on certain long-haul connections are creating strain on seat availability. In this context, two airlines have decided to act quickly: THAI Airways and Air Mauritius are increasing their capacity to Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

Tensions over airspace in the Middle East

The escalating tensions related to the Iran-Iraq War are having a direct impact on international air transport. Several airlines are having to adjust their routes to avoid certain sensitive areas, resulting in longer flight times, additional costs, and sometimes capacity adjustments.

According to the specialized press, these disruptions particularly affect routes between Asia and Europe. When flight paths are altered or lengthened, some airlines reduce their frequency or adjust their schedules. As a result, pressure on available seats can increase rapidly on certain strategic routes.

In this context, Paris-CDG remains a major hub for long-haul traffic between Europe, Asia and the Indian Ocean.

THAI adds a special Bangkok – Paris flight

Thai Airways has decided to temporarily increase its service between Bangkok and Paris. According to the specialized press, a special round-trip flight is scheduled for March 18, 2026, to meet the increased demand on this route.

This additional flight is scheduled to connect Bangkok to Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle on the night of March 18, with a return flight to Thailand planned for the same day. The aim is to increase available capacity between Southeast Asia and Europe at a time when some air routes are experiencing strain.

For tourism professionals, this type of adjustment illustrates the ability of airlines to quickly adapt their offerings in response to the geopolitical situation and market demand.

Air Mauritius is also increasing its service to Paris

For its part, Air Mauritius has announced several additional rotations between Mauritius and Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle between March and April 2026. According to the specialized press, these additional flights should increase capacity on this highly sought-after route.

An initial additional flight is scheduled for March 23, followed by three more flights on April 1, 8, and 15. In total, these flights would represent more than 2,300 additional seats between Mauritius and Paris.

These operations will be carried out in code-sharing with Air France, which facilitates their distribution in the booking systems used by travel agencies and tour operators.

A strategic adjustment for companies

For airlines, this type of decision follows a clear business logic. When a geopolitical disruption alters traffic flows, certain routes suddenly become more strategic.

Strengthening capacity on these routes allows for capturing a stronger demand while compensating for disruptions on other segments of the network.

In my view, this situation illustrates a classic rule of air transport: geopolitical crises always reshuffle the market. Airlines that react quickly can turn a disruption into a business opportunity.

A real challenge for travel agencies

For travel agencies and tour operators, the addition of extra flights can create new opportunities for certain client bookings. When a route is in high demand, a few extra flights can be enough to unlock reservations that seemed impossible just a few days earlier.

Professionals must therefore closely monitor airline scheduling adjustments, as these decisions can create sales opportunities or help secure certain long-haul routes.

Bangkok and Mauritius remain highly sought-after destinations for European travellers, particularly during school holidays and peak tourist seasons.

Why these market movements are worth watching

In an aviation environment increasingly sensitive to geopolitical tensions, capacity adjustments can multiply rapidly. Airlines are constantly adapting their schedules to balance their network, costs, and market demand.

For tourism professionals, the key remains the same: closely monitor developments in air transport and react quickly when new capacities appear.

In short

  • The Iran-Iraq War is currently disrupting some air routes linking Asia and Europe.
  • THAI Airways adds an exceptional flight between Bangkok and Paris-CDG on March 18, 2026.
  • Air Mauritius is scheduling four additional rotations between Mauritius and Paris between March and April.
  • These flights represent more than 2,300 additional seats on the Mauritius–Paris route.
  • Airlines are adjusting their capacity to respond to pressures on seat supply.
  • These new rotations may offer opportunities for travel agencies.
