Queen Victoria: Cunard unveils the renovation that will transform the ship starting in November 2026

Date:

Queen Victoria will enter dry dock in Rotterdam from October 17 to November 5, 2026. Cunard plans to refurbish several iconic spaces, modernize its Grill Suites, add eight Britannia cabins and install a Pavilion Wellness Café before the ship returns to service on November 7.

The announcement was published on July 21, 2026. The program concerns a ship that can accommodate approximately 2,000 passengers and covers public spaces, accommodation and catering.

This is a major renovation, but Cunard does not specify its budget, the total area concerned, or the complete list of technical work carried out during the dry docking.

Queen Victoria will be immobilized for nearly three weeks

Queen Victoria is due to arrive at the Damen Shiprepair shipyard in Rotterdam on October 17, 2026. The end of the dry dock is announced for November 5, with a resumption of cruises planned for November 7.

This period of immobilization should allow Cunard to refurbish several places known to passengers, including the Grand Lobby and the Queen's Room.

According to the specialized press, Seatrade Cruise News, Travel Weekly and Cruise Critic have confirmed the renovation schedule as well as the main new features presented by the company.

The press release, however, does not confirm that the entire Queen Victoria will be renovated. The most accurate wording is that it refers to a transformation program encompassing several areas and cabin categories.

The Grand Lobby and the Queen's Room will have a new look

The Grand Lobby will be redesigned to modernize the ship's reception area. Cunard has not yet released a detailed technical description of the materials, furnishings, or future layout of the space.

The Queen's Room is also slated for renovation. This space will continue to host Afternoon Tea, concerts, dance events, and onboard parties.

The images released by the company offer a glimpse of the future decor, but they remain concept images. The final result can only be assessed after the ship is back in service.

Starting this fall, the ship, which can accommodate up to 2,000 passengers, will undergo a major renovation in Rotterdam. The Grills suites will be refurbished

The Queens Grill Suites and Princess Grill Suites will benefit from new furniture, new finishes and an evolution of their decor.

Cunard presents these categories as the most upscale accommodations on the Queen Victoria. However, the press release makes no mention of suite expansions, the creation of new included services, or changes to the Grills restaurants reserved for passengers.

It is therefore more accurate to speak of an interior redesign than a complete transformation of the Grills experience.

Eight new cabins will be added to the Queen Victoria

The renovation should allow for the addition of eight Britannia cabins to the ship's current offering.

Among them, three will belong to a new category called Britannia Deluxe Oceanview. Cunard announces floor-to-ceiling windows offering expansive views of the outside.

The eight cabins have been available for booking since July 20, 2026 for cruises scheduled from November 11, 2026.

This date does not correspond to the ship's return to service, announced four days earlier. Therefore, the new cabins are not necessarily available for purchase on the first cruise following the dry-docking.

The Pavilion Wellness Café arrives on board

Queen Victoria will become Cunard's third ship to host the Pavilion Wellness Café, following Queen Anne in 2024 and Queen Elizabeth in 2025.

The space will serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks throughout the day. The announced menu will include plant-based options, as well as meat, fish, and dairy products presented by Cunard as organic or responsibly sourced, depending on the market.

The press release does not specify whether the entire offer will be included in the cruise price, whether certain dishes will be charged extra, or what labels will be used to certify the origin of the ingredients.

The term "wellness" reflects the company's chosen positioning. No medical content or therapeutic program is associated with the opening of this café.

Queen Victoria will set sail again on November 7, 2026

Following the work, Queen Victoria is due to resume its schedule on November 7, 2026 before making its final departures of the year.

Cunard then announced itineraries for 2027 in the Mediterranean, the Norwegian fjords and the Canary Islands, among other European destinations.

The company's commercial calendar notably confirms a significant presence of the ship in the Mediterranean between May and October 2027.

Routes, port call times, and availability are subject to change before departure. The ship's refurbishment does not automatically alter fares or the services included in each booking.

What Katie McAlister is announcing for Queen Victoria

Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, presents the project as follows:

“Queen Victoria has always held a special place in the hearts of our passengers. They appreciate its unique character, intimate spaces, and signature British elegance. We are delighted to be able to enhance the onboard experience while carefully preserving the heritage and charm that make it so iconic. From the Grand Lobby to the Queen’s Room, every detail has been carefully considered to ensure that Queen Victoria continues to embody the timeless luxury for which it is renowned. We look forward to welcoming our passengers back so they can experience these new features for themselves .”

This quote reflects Cunard's desired positioning. It does not constitute an independent assessment of the comfort level or the final quality of the renovated spaces.

The French market will be distributed by Cruisepro

In France, Cunard is represented by Cruisepro, which handles the company's marketing to its professional partners.

Emmanuel Joly, director of Cruisepro, states:

“We are eager to introduce the Queen Victoria in its new
version to the French public. The combination of Cunard’s iconic craftsmanship, a fully refurbished ship, and
carefully crafted itineraries across Europe makes this a benchmark for
elegant and escapist holidays at sea.”

The mention of a "fully renovated" ship belongs to Cruisepro's statement. The technical information released to date more specifically describes the renovation of several public areas, suites, and cabins.

What agencies can present to their clients

Confirmed elements include the dry dock schedule, the renovation of the Grand Lobby and Queens Room, the refurbishment of the Grills suites, the addition of eight cabins and the opening of the Pavilion Wellness Café.

These new features can be incorporated into the arguments for departures organized after November 2026. However, they must be distinguished from general promises of luxury, well-being or transformation of the experience, which fall under Cunard's commercial communication.

Travel agencies will also need to verify the actual availability of the new cabins, their fares, and associated amenities before offering them. The airline did not publish a specific fare schedule for the new Britannia Deluxe Oceanview category in its press release.

A major renovation, but still only partially documented

The announcement provides specific information on the dates, the main areas affected, and the new cabins. However, it does not give any investment amount, any detailed site plan, or any indication of a possible change in the ship's total capacity after the work is completed.

Queen Victoria will therefore retain neither its official positioning nor its name. Cunard is using this refurbishment to update several visible elements of the product ahead of the 2027 season.

This article was published on July 21, 2026, based on Cunard's official press release and the information available at that time. The scope of work, services, and schedule remain subject to change before the vessel is returned to service.
